Pregnancy is such a beautiful, fleeting chapter. If you are anything like most mamas I photograph, you may be wondering when the best time is to take your maternity photos.
As a Barrie and New Tecumseth maternity photographer, this is one of the questions I am asked most often, and it truly matters. The timing of your session plays a big role in both your comfort and in how you will remember this meaningful season of life.
Best time for maternity photos
Generally, the sweet spot is between 30 to 36 weeks of pregnancy. Here’s why:
- Your bump is nicely rounded and ready for photos.
- You’re usually still comfortable and have plenty of energy, especially closer to 30 weeks.
- It allows some cushion in case baby arrives early.
For those with high-risk pregnancies or expecting multiples, scheduling around 28 to 32 weeks can be a safer choice.
Even if you’re past 36 weeks, beautiful maternity photos are still possible. We may just need to plan a little differently to keep you comfortable and relaxed.
Planning Ahead
If you are early in your pregnancy and want to plan ahead, I suggest getting in touch during your second trimester to reserve your session. Booking early helps ensure we can find a date that works, especially during busy seasons like spring and fall.
If you have a specific style in mind, such as lush greenery, soft florals, or cozy autumn tones, consider what will be in season and reach out soon. These spots tend to fill up quickly.
